About Bao / Founder · Strategist · Builder
I like the space where a difficult idea becomes something people can actually use.
My foundation is in materials, circuits, and real silicon. Consulting widened the frame to markets and adoption. Now, as A Story’s Co-founder and COO, I bring those questions into the same product.
The chapter I’m building now
How I work
Tape-out, implantable circuits, consulting, and A Story ask different questions. Each starts with evidence and ends with a decision someone can use.
The timing path at Faraday. Noise and the physical sensor at WICS. Clinician interviews at miLEAD.
Power in an implantable circuit. Timing before tape-out. Trust in a family archive. The limiting factor changes the next decision.
An engineering handoff. A recommendation for biotech leadership. A first conversation in A Story. Give the next person something they can act on.
The path here
I arrived from Vietnam in 2019. Michigan became the place where materials led to circuits, engineering led to strategy, and unfamiliar faces became a community.

Peterson Lab made research tangible: prepare a sample, take a measurement, change a condition, look again. Circuit projects added another kind of discipline—choosing between competing constraints.
Faraday brought the pressure of delivery. Graduate research brought demanding biomedical systems. Alongside that work, miLEAD asked how a promising technology could find a market.
The circuit has to work.
So does everything around it.

The work grew inside a community of researchers, mentors, and collaborators.
I joined WICS in July 2024 for graduate research on ultra-low-power circuits for a totally implantable auditory prosthesis.
The work ran through November 2025: subthreshold sensor interfaces, transimpedance amplifiers, active-RC filters, noise and PVT analysis, and MEMS/ASIC integration in TSMC 65nm CMOS.
As a Graduate Student Instructor, I lectured, held office hours, and developed circuit and amplifier laboratory materials supporting more than 400 students.
Being correct was a starting point. An explanation also had to connect with the person hearing it.
Consulting / miLEAD · 2024–26

Primary research, market analysis, and commercialization recommendations for three pre-clinical biotechnology startups brought customers, adoption, and execution into the same decision.
The consulting chapterMichigan & community / VISA
I co-founded the Vietnamese International Student Association at Michigan. A new place is easier to enter when people are ready to welcome you.

Cultural nights, familiar faces, friendships that outlast the event. These years mean more to me than a collection of projects.
I wanted the next students from Vietnam to find a community already waiting.
Outside work
Sports taught me competition. Poker taught me incomplete information. Time outside reminds me that not every good day needs to produce something.

A different kind of focus.
The Wasatch Mountains, near Salt Lake City.

Fresh air, a game, good company.
A life beyond the formal record.

Researchers, mentors, classmates, and collaborators shaped how I approach a problem. Completing graduate engineering work was also a moment to recognize that community.

I’m interested in ambitious products, difficult technology, and the strategy that turns one into the other.
